Man-Machines

For my fellow nerds out there. This reminds me of the days when I used to really enjoy science classes.

U R The Prototype

Be clear, this post is just as much about that picture as it is the song. Miss Keys is definitely starting power forward on my wifey all-star team. Yes, I have a wifey all-star team... a squad of prototypes that I've compiled in my head and provided for you after the jump. Tell me if you think I left anyone out.

Center: Beyoncé Knowles
You can't NOT make Beyoncé the center (just ask Kelly, Michelle, LeToya, LaTavia, & that other girl). But jokes aside, she has it all. Plus it's always fun to have a chick that everybody hates on.

Power Forward: Alicia Keys
Do you see that base? She was made for the post.

Small Forward: Halle Berry
This was a tough pick. Almost went with Angelina Jolie here because she's more aggressive, but Halle's resumé (CatWoman aside) is pretty thorough. Plus Angelina's always adopting babies. That can be a liability.
Shooting Guard: Jada Pinkett-Smith
Jada could play almost any position, but at the end of the day she's a scorer. Plus she was BFF's with 2Pac... she gets G status off that alone.
Point Guard: Nia Long
Did you not see Boyz N Da Hood... Fresh Prince... Friday? This is the reliable PG I want running my team. Complex beat me to the punch with this one.

Sixth Man: Michelle Obama
Michelle's the vet that's taken a reduced roll but is, by far, still the most respected on the team. And since the election, she's surpassed all of the starters in Hip-Hop mentions ("Halle Berry, She's Fine" only counts as one). I swear this woman must have superpowers... or be from Chicago.

The People

This is kinda amazing. I love art that uses the city as a protagonist or tries to capture the essence of a city. Never really messed with San Fran like that, but after watching this it makes me think they might have some character out there after all... who knew?

Hmm... Interesting: Starring The InPulse Blackberry Smartwatch

Hide your addiction with the InPulse Blackberry Smartwatch ($150). It connects wirelessly via Bluetooth to your Blackberry, letting you discreetly check emails, texts, and Twitter updates without busting out the phone. The InPulse sports a 1.3-inch full color OLED display, a built-in vibrating motor, and a rechargeable lithium-ion polymer battery.

Dunno how I feel about this one yet... but great idea though. Especially for those dates or meetings when it's not appropriate to pull out the phone. Looking forward to seeing how much iller Apple's version of this will be. Speaking of which, I wouldn't be mad if Apple decided to launch a campaign to defecate on Blackberry the way that they do on PC.

A Lesson in Multiplication

Paranormal Activity is in its fifth week in theaters and has stayed at #1. It cost $15,000 to make and they filmed it in one week. So far it has grossed $64 MILLION at the box office.... $64,000,000!!!!! Say what you want about whether it was scary or not. The fact is that you probably have seen or are going to see this movie just to see what the hype is about. Paramount (They bought the movie for $300K) is getting bank off of a movie that has been in theaters for 5 times as long as it took to make. Recession?... what?

And while we're talking about movies... anybody got tix to "This Is It"? I will shed tears if I do not see that movie in theaters.

Today's words of encouragement with Lil Boosie

Jailtime on the way for Li' Boosie Badazz. Keep ya' head up homie. Maybe him and Wayne can do a joint (pun?) album or something. JD summed it up pretty well on Twitter.
p.s. Is it just me or is Boosie's voice like 3 octaves higher on his songs than in real life.

Sunday Hilarity: You Gets No Love

For those of you who revel in the form of celebration, confirmation, or salutation known as the high-five, this is your worst nightmare: being looked square in the eye... and denied the right of dappage.

In times like these one must be skilled in the art of "playing it off"... Exhibit A. Phil Jackson: a true Champion.

Lemme put you on.... Wild Young Heartbreaks

Take the most recent albums from London Indie Rock group The Noisettes (Get Familiar) and Kanye West, mix 'em in a huge bowl, sprinkle in some dope features, then give 'em to Mick Boogie & Terry Urban to bake slowly and this is what you get. Not your ordinary, lazy mash-up. Boogie & T. Urban took their time with this one and did it right. It's less of a mash-up and more of a Noisettes remix album inspired by 808's and Heartbreak.

Usually when two albums are great on their own, I don't support anyone tampering with it. But this one proved me wrong. If you're not already familiar with The Noisettes then you should give them a listen.

Plus it features style mavens Ibn Jasper and Fonzworth Bentley ("There is a G in Gent" Lol) not to mention the whole GIRL skateboards crew. You gotta watch this in Full Screen... Enjoy.

ROAAARRRR! *Camera Phone Snaps*...

After being turned away by the Chicago Cubs (too old), Memphis Grizzlies (didn't get along with Allen Iverson) and the University of California Bears (failed drug test), this bear decided to travel overseas and found a home with Spanish soccer team, Real Valladolid.

Due to his interest in the arts and fondness of purple striped shirts, Oso (as he is affectionately called by the Real Valladolid players. Birth name: Mortimer) experienced extreme verbal abuse as a child and resolved that he would not survive long in the woods. Now the bear is the main attraction of a mediocre Spanish soccer team and, even though he wishes he were feared a bit more by humans, he is happy to finally be accepted in the world. "Every time they tell me to do a somersault, I cry a little on the inside," says the bear "But if I hadn't've come here, I'd be dead right now. So I can't complain."
Oso resides in the Laguna de Duero area and, when not busy with the team, he serves as a music instructor at a local high school. He cites Placido Domingo as his musical inspiration.
